As movies and cinema have changed over the years, Universal Productions have lead the way in bringing characters to life. The realism of these creatures have far outpaced the constant changing of movie technology. Decades ago, when motion pictures were just beginning to scrape the surface of technology, getting by with a mask was easy. However, this no longer applies. Cameras have become so advanced, if the actors don’t appear to be authentic and real, the viewer will know.
Universal’s Horror Make-Up Show brings guests behind the scenes and provides a look into how Hollywood does it.
Location and Show Times
The Horror Makeup Show theater is at the end of the Avenue of the Stars in Universal Studios. Shows usually begin mid to late morning and run every 45 minutes.
Lobby Area
When entering the attraction, you’ll first enter a holding area with horror film memorabilia. You’ll find props, scripts, and more used in thrillers dating back to the early 1900s.
You’ll see works from films like Frankenstein, Wolfman, and Jurassic Park. You can also read up on some of the legendary producers and creators of all time like, Steven Spielberg and Alfred Hitchcock.
The Show
Inside the theater, guests meet renowned make-up artists. The hilarious hosts then walk you through some of the tricks Hollywood uses to make fake scenes look incredibly realistic.
We won’t ruin the fun by spoiling some of their tricks but just know you’ll see blood!
