Have you ever wanted to take that dream trip to Orlando and just wanted to do some “big kid” stuff? Roller coasters, 3D and 4D rides and shows, scary characters, etc… Then you look down and realize, oh, little Johnny probably (Or definitely) can’t enjoy the same things I can, so we won’t go. Here’s our guide to Universal Studios for Kids Under 5.
Universal does a fantastic job of catering to the young children with a large array of choices that will help mom and dad enjoy the big kid attractions while being able to mix in a “Dr Seuss” or a “Woody Woodpecker” here and there. Here’s where you can find the best rides and shows for the younger park attendee.
Play Areas and Rides
Fievel’s Playland
Kids can run, jump and splash as they journey through a playground meant to simulate Fievel’s perspective. Slides, water props and rope climbing areas are sure to burn off some steam. The playland is located in the back of Universal Studios, near the E.T. Adventure ride and typically opens at 10am. Parents can enjoy shaded areas with high-speed fans to keep cool while the kids run amuck.
Curious George Goes to Town
Located in the same area of the park is a Curious George-themed playground. This area features a model town facade with water cannons, splash buckets and an enclosed ball, battle area. Tell your kids to go have fun shooting air-powered ball launchers at each other. Bring the kids and let them run like crazy for a bit. It’s sure to lead to a good night’s sleep.

Barney’s Backyard
Making it a trio of attractions for the youngsters, Barney’s Backyard provides more than just a physical outlet. Through different stations, children have the opportunity to learn while playing. There’s a sand pit and water area all located within Barney’s treehouse.
Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster
For the kids old enough (and tall enough – 36″) and have an interest in a ride, Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster is a great option. This “Thrill” ride (for kids of course) features a “kid-sized” roller coaster taking the train to the top of a drop, then twisting a twirling its way back to the station. The total ride lasts less than 30 seconds and, while it may cause a bit of panic with the young ones, it’ll likely make them want to go again!
